Its one thing to only occasional partake, and for most people this is the case. However for others getting high can gradually become more and more of a fixture in their life. All the while the negative side effects of becoming more and more used to regularly smoking weed begin to show and begin to take their toll financially, socially, professionally, and physically. It can be tough to face yourself and realize that you may have a problem and need to make some major changes, in your life. Yet without being completely honest and taking a step back and considering what the actual effects of marijuana might be having on your life it can be hard to see how bad it may have become.
When it comes to smoking weed the level of addiction to marijuana and role that getting high plays in a persons life can vary widely. - The Physical Side Effects: When consumed in very light moderation then the physical side effects of smoking are negligible but when you smoke the amounts of weed that most regular pot heads smoke than the side effects on both your physical and mental health can begin to pile up.

While today the vast majority of people have experimented with or smoked marijuana at some point in their life and now with the decriminalization and increasing number of states allowing medical marijuana, smoking weed or being a “pot head” can still sometimes carry a negative social stigma that may hurt you professionally.
- Social Aspects of Smoking Weed. In my experience people who are heavy smokers tend to mainly hangout with and have friends that are also into smoking pot. When you are in that type of social environment it can be hard to separate yourself and get away from people that may be less than supportive of your decision to quit smoking.

One Week Since I Quit Smoking Weed
Well it has been a whole week since I was finally able to quit smoking weed for good. I have to say it feels pretty damn nice to have been able to actually quit for good this time. There are still times when I think how nice it would be to toke up and just say screw it but after coming this far there is no way I will let all of the trouble I went through go to waste.

I would be lying if I said that the past week has been easy or that there weren’t times when I was close to giving in but this time I stuck to my goal of being weed free and am very happy that I did. In the past I have quit before, sometimes just for a day and once I went almost a week without smoking only to give in, buy some weed and quickly go right back to getting high every day.

Moving On After Quitting Weed
One of the greatest benefits that I have experienced after I quit smoking weed is the mental clarity and lack of brain fog I used to get. Right before I quit I was smoking a few times a day everyday. It didn’t matter if I had school, a test to study for, work, or anything else. I was basically walking through life in a haze of smoke and I could notice a huge difference. Now after a week of being sober I can feel my brain coming back to life and it has been awesome. I can’t wait to keep getting sharper and have my memory return to what is was before. Its not like I switched a flip, its been more gradual than that but when I am studying or having a conversation it has been quite noticeable. I have also been actively trying to exercise my brain by playing chess online. I also bought several brain training books with puzzles and challenges from amazon so I can train my brain and keep from getting bored at the same time. At least for me boredom has been one of the biggest challenges in quitting weed. Smoking marijuana unfortunately became what I used to do with my free time aside from school and work. Gradually it began to eat up more and more until it was my main hobby. The thing about smoking weed is that when your stoned, that’s basically all you do. It makes you lose interest in mentally challenging yourself and keeps you in a little box. Now that I have stopped smoking weed I’m trying to use my time to make myself better and smarter. It has been an adjustment but its getting better each day and I keep looking forward to the future because I know I will be facing it with a clear mind and will be able to deal with whatever problems I encounter with a sharp, focused, sober mind
When You Stop Smoking Weed Don’t Hang With the same Crowd
When you are about to stop smoking weed or already have, one very important thing to remember is how important who you hang out with is. If your the only one in your group of friends that smoke that is asking themselves “should I stop smoking pot?” then when you do decide to finally kick the habit, make a positive change and stop smoking weed. Chances are that the people that you used to hang out with wont be the best group to be around or more importantly be the right place for you to get the understanding or support that you need to be successful in your quest to stop smoking weed.
Separate Real Friends From Smoke Buddies
When you do decide to give up smoking weed you will probably get one of two reactions from your friends. The first will be that they don’t understand why someone would want to stop smoking weed in the first place and maybe even resent your imitative to break free of the the addiction of marijuana and move on with your life. The best thing to do is be honest, say to your friend that you used to smoke with. I am planning to stop smoking weed and until I feel like I can be around you I don’t think its a good idea. You don’t have to feel bad because its very important that you not be around the people and things that can trigger a relapse. Just imagine how easy it would be to give into a craving when your hanging around people who are smoking weed in front of you. If they are your friend then they will understand and there should be no reason you cant be be around them once you are fully over smoking weed. Just remember that you are trying to make your self a better person by deciding to stop smoking weed and the more things you can do to help your self the better.
