This is because while marijuana is not physically addictive, like many other drugs and products such as alcohol, tobacco, cocaine, prescription drugs, or heroin. It is still psychologically addictive and habits can be easily formed around smoking weed that can lead to an addictive and destructive cycle.

Even though smoking weed is not physically addicting, the power of a psychological addiction should not be underestimated and this is what most people don’t understand when it comes to quitting marijuana. When you smoke weed for an extended period of time, your brain becomes used to the effects of the amounts of THC being ingested. Which in turn causes the person to become accustomed to the feeling of euphoria and slight psychoactive qualities of marijuana. This begins to have an effect on the brain and body that can make breaking the cycle of smoking very difficult because the state of being “high” has become the new normal. Avoid Important Things to Get High: Procrastinating and avoiding doing things that are important like studying, working or attending social events because you would rather smoke pot. This is a definite red flag that your continued use of marijuana is something that you need to honestly think about and consider what consequences it’s having in your life.
Become Defensive if Someone Questions you Weed Habit: If someone in your life brings up your marijuana use and you immediately become defensive about it and aren’t open to discussing it. Chances are that this may be a sign that you are ignoring the effects that smoking heavy amounts of weed are having in your life. Sometimes it can be easy to ignore something or not even see it. Yet it may be obvious for someone else who is close to you and can see what your addiction to marijuana is really doing to your life.

This is probably the most important step when figuring out whether or not you have gone from being a casual marijuana smoker to becoming addicted. It may not be fun when you start taking a hard look at your life and what consequences getting high is causing. This is why it’s important to find things to do like working out, learning a new skill like a second language, or anything else that is both productive and fun.
